GIVE THE GIFT OF STOCK

Appreciated securities are perhaps the most cost-effective assets to use in making a gift. When you transfer ownership of a long-term holding to Fonkoze USA, you receive a charitable deduction for the full market value and you incur no capital gains tax. DO NOT sell the stock and send cash, as that will cause you to incur capital gains tax.

After downloading the instruction sheet, ask your broker or bank to wire the number of shares of stock you wish to donate to:

PLANNED GIVING

Fonkoze USA accepts a number of different types of planned gifts.

  • Bequests—Designate Fonkoze USA as a beneficiary in your will. When our days on earth are ended and we depart this life, most of us want to be remembered for what we considered important. Writing a will is our final way of remembering the people and causes that were important to us. Writing a will is how we shape our legacy. Our legacy is what remains after we are gone. By remembering Fonkoze in our will, we can continue our caring for those less fortunate after our lifetime. Fonkoze will put each bequest into a special endowment account permanently named for you, the donor. Thereafter, each year in perpetuity, income from your bequest endowment will be used to support Fonkoze’s work of helping desperately poor families in Haiti to produce an income for themselves. The proper wording for including Fonkoze in your will is as follows: “I bequeath to Fonkoze USA, a non-profit organization incorporated and headquartered in New York, the sum of $______ (or ___%) of the remainder of my estate.
  • Designate Fonkoze USA as a beneficiary of a Charitable Trust.
  • Designate Fonkoze USA as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
  • Donate real estate to Fonkoze USA by setting up a life estate.

If you have any questions, please contact John Mercier at Fonkoze USA.

    SPONSOR A BRANCH OFFICE

Fonkoze is Haiti’s only nationwide microfinance bank serving the needs of Haiti’s rural poor. As of December 2006, Fonkoze had 30 branch offices nationwide. Fonkoze is constantly expanding its presence into even more rural areas to reach clients that have no other access to formal financial services. You can help Fonkoze serve these hard-to-reach clients by sponsoring a branch office.

The start-up costs for one year ranges from $40,000 to $60,000 depending on the location.

For more information on how you can help sponsor a branch office, please contact Anne Hastings.
