Haitian-American artist, singer, and advocate Rebecca Zama is lending her voice this Giving Tuesday to support the women of Fonkoze in Haiti— women who are the poto mitan (center pillars) of their families and communities.
In her heartfelt video message, Rebecca reminds us that empowering women is essential to building a stronger, more just Haiti — and that when we invest in women, we invest in Haiti’s future.
“When we talk about making a better Haiti for everyone, we cannot leave women out of that conversation. Fonkoze is putting them in the middle as the poto mitan — the center pillar — that they are.”
— ZAMA
For over 30 years, Fonkoze has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with women across rural Haiti, providing the tools, training, and support they need to lift their families out of poverty — and to lead their communities forward.
Rebecca shares why this work matters to her personally:
“There’s no greater gift than to give to others who are in need. That is how we sow a seed of hope, a seed of prosperity, and a seed of joy.”
