Transforming Women’s Lives in Haiti: Boston Event Recap and Photo Gallery

On July 12, 2024, we hosted a transformative event in Boston titled “Women at the Forefront: Transforming Women’s Lives in Haiti; Sustainable Development and Grassroots Change.” This event brought together members of the Haitian diaspora and advocates for women’s empowerment to discuss the impactful work Fonkoze is doing in Haiti.

The event was an inspiring gathering featuring a range of activities, including guest interventions, a panel discussion, and a special acoustic performance by members of Lakou Mizik. For those who were unable to attend, here is a recap of the day’s highlights.

Welcome Remarks and Video Presentation

Erlantz Hyppolite, Executive Director of Fonkoze USA, and Stephanie Joseph, CEO of Kura Technologies, warmly welcomed attendees. The welcome was followed by a powerful video presentation showcasing Fonkoze’s efforts and successes in Haiti.

Lakou Mizik Band Members Performance

Members of Lakou Mizik treated us to an unforgettable acoustic performance, setting the tone for an afternoon of meaningful conversations and networking. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments while mingling and discussing their shared commitment to Haiti’s development.

The panel discussion, moderated by Dana François, Program Officer for WKKF, featured the following distinguished panelists:

  • Regine Theodat, Entrepreneur
  • Pascale Solages, Feminist Organizer
  • Carline Desire, Executive Director of the Association of Haitian Women in Boston

The panelists shared their perspectives on sustainable development and grassroots change in Haiti, emphasizing the importance of empowering women. The session concluded with networking, allowing the audience to engage directly with the panelists.

 

Vendors and Networking

Special Guest: Boston City Council president, Ruthzee Louijeune addressed the group with inspiring words.

Local vendors, including Pveet, and Kura Technologies, showcased their products, adding a vibrant touch to the event. Attendees had the opportunity to network, explore vendor offerings, and discuss collaborative efforts for Haiti’s future.
